Los Angeles rewards tours that go deep in one place, not wide across the city. A 2–3 hour walking tour in Hollywood or Downtown gives you the film history and the street-level context a guidebook cannot, at a price low enough to do two. A studio or film-industry tour is the one thing you cannot replicate on your own — book it first, because slots sell out in summer. A neighbourhood food tour works best in the evening, when Grand Central Market, Koreatown or Santa Monica's stalls are busy and the guide can move you between kitchens quickly.
