Longmeadow is a residential town of about 3 by 3 miles between Springfield and the Connecticut line, with one of the highest incomes per capita in Massachusetts. Its draw is a single stretch of road: US Route 5, called Longmeadow Street, where 18th- and 19th-century houses ring a town green that is a National Register historic district and has stayed residential rather than commercial. There is no hotel, no industry and very little bus service, so it works as a half-day from Springfield or a stop on the drive between Springfield and Hartford, not as a place to stay.

Get around
You need a car. Route 5 (Longmeadow Street) is the only north–south road through town; Converse St, Bliss Road, Williams St and Maple St cross it from north to south. PVTA buses run infrequently from Springfield and Longmeadow has the fewest PVTA stops of any town in the Pioneer Valley. The green and the historic houses sit about halfway along Route 5, so park once and walk.
