Llandysul
Go for one night only if you kayak or fish the Teifi; otherwise pass through in 2–3 hours on the A484/B4624 between Lampeter and Newcastle Emlyn.
Llandysul is a small Teifi valley town of about 2,700 people, split between Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire, with no railway station. Its pull is the river itself — angling and kayaking — plus a wool-museum run and a handful of craft and history stops. Most travellers use it as a half-day pause on a west Wales drive, not a base.

Get around
No train station. The nearest stations are Aberystwyth and Carmarthen, both reached by road. Buses are limited — Richards Bros runs occasional services to Cardigan, Newcastle Emlyn, Saron and Pencader — so a car is the practical way to cover the valley. The town itself is small enough to walk.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake at first meeting; 'hi' and first names quickly; avoid: Cheek kisses with strangers
- Conversation: Weather is a safe opener; understatement and self-deprecating humour; avoid: Asking about salary or class
- Queues: Join at the back; avoid: Pushing onto buses or trains before others get off
- Apologies: 'Sorry' is said constantly, even when not at fault; avoid: Taking it as an admission of blame
- Pubs: Buy rounds in a group; wait at the bar without waving money; avoid: Clicking fingers at staff
- Nations: Call Scots Scottish and Welsh Welsh; avoid: Calling the whole UK 'England'
Scams and watch-outs
- Bus services are infrequent; check times before relying on them.
- Many attractions and eateries keep short or seasonal hours; confirm before travelling.
- Rural roads are narrow with passing places; drive slowly and expect farm traffic.
A quiet, low-crime rural town. The real risks are fast single-track roads, river currents when kayaking or fishing, and patchy mobile signal in the valleys.
