The honest verdict

Ljubljana is small: the Old Town, the castle hill and Tivoli Park sit within about 2 km, and most of the centre is closed to cars. The trips that go wrong are the ones that try to drive into the pedestrian zone, book a late dinner on a Sunday when half the kitchens are closed, or treat Bled and Postojna as easy half-days. Four walking clusters cover a first visit; the lakes and the caves are trips away from one kept bed.
