Liverpool is a small South Shore town, about 1 h 40 min by car from Halifax on Highway 103, with a privateering and rum-running past, a walkable Main Street and white-sand beaches within 20–30 min. There is no public transport, so a car decides what you actually see. Most travellers use it as a one- or two-night stop between Halifax and Yarmouth, or as a base for Kejimkujik Seaside and Thomas Raddall Provincial Park.

Scams and watch-outs
- Almost everything is seasonal: Fort Point Lighthouse, Perkins House, the Rossignol Cultural Centre and the Sherman Hines Museum of Photography open roughly mid-May to mid-October — check dates before you build a day around them.
- Carter's Beach has very limited parking and no washrooms or changing rooms; follow marked paths and stay off the dunes.
- Signed Piping Plover nesting areas on Port Joli beaches close to people in nesting season; respect the enclosures.
- Do not eat wild mushrooms without expert guidance.
- Cell coverage and fuel stops thin out on Highway 3 and Highway 8; fill up in town.
Liverpool is a small, low-crime town and generally safe for tourists. The real risks are driving: moose and deer on Highway 103 and Highway 8 at dusk and dawn, coastal fog, and long gaps between fuel stops.
