Base in Lindos for 2 nights: climb to the acropolis at opening (08:00) before the coaches arrive, then use the village as a beach and taverna base.
Lindos is a whitewashed village of about 800 people on Rhodes' east coast, built under a rock with a Dorian acropolis on top and two sandy bays below. It is pedestrianised, so you park or arrive by bus outside and walk in. Two nights is enough: one for the acropolis and village, one for the beaches and St Paul's Bay. In July and August the lanes and the climb fill up by mid-morning, so the timing of your day matters more than the length of your stay.

Get around
On foot only inside the village: the lanes are pedestrianised and stepped, so a stroller or wheeled case is hard work. The acropolis climb is a steep 10–15 min on uneven stone with no handrails; a donkey ride up costs about €6. Buses run along the coast to Rhodes city and nearby resorts; a car helps for beaches and day trips but must be parked outside the centre.

Scams and watch-outs
- The acropolis climb is steep, uneven and has no handrails; not suitable for limited mobility.

- Blue-marked parking spaces near the centre are paid; free spaces are further out.
- Beach sunbeds and parasols are charged (about €8 for a parasol and two loungers at St Paul's Bay).
- Summer heat peaks in Jul–Aug; carry water for the climb.
Very safe for tourists; the real risks are the heat and footing on the acropolis climb, plus pickpocketing in the crowded lanes in high season. Swim where others swim, and keep an eye on the meltemi wind on the east-coast beaches.
