Lethbridge
Give Lethbridge one full day, two if you hike the coulees: the river valley is the reason to stop, the downtown is a half-day.
Lethbridge is a southern Alberta hub of about 93,000 people on the Oldman River, halfway between Calgary and the US border. The coulees — the eroded river valley — are the sight, with a Japanese garden, a museum and a 1.6 km railway trestle around them. A car makes everything easy; the city is small and quiet, and most travellers use it as a night's stop on the Crowsnest Highway.

Get around
A car is the easy way: every major sight is a short drive, and the city spreads across the river. Lethbridge Transit runs 16 routes (single fare $3, day pass $7.50) but service is thin in the evening. Walking works downtown and inside the coulees; walking between south and west Lethbridge means a steep drop and climb on Whoop-Up Drive.
