Lenakel
Spend 1–2 days in Lenakel to see the market, kava bar and sea‑view restaurants; then continue north to White Grass or south to Port Resolution.
Lenakel is the main settlement on Tanna’s west coast. Its compact centre lets you walk between the covered market, a few eateries and the harbour in a few minutes. One night at a guesthouse is enough to sample local food, drink kava and use the road network to visit nearby villages or the White Grass Airport.

Language
Bislama, an English-based creole, is the national language and the one everyone shares. English and French are official and taught in schools, so you can get by in either in towns. At home people speak one of over 100 local languages.
- Useful Bislama: halo (hello), tangkyu tumas (thank you very much), hamas? (how much?), mi no save (I don't know / I can't), wanem nem blong yu? (what's your name?), lukim yu (see you).
- 'Save' means 'know' or 'can'; 'blong' means 'of' or 'belonging to'.
