Lawrenny
Go for one night or a half-day if you have a car: a quay, an estuary footpath and a tearoom. No bus, no station — skip without wheels.
Lawrenny is a small village and parish inside the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, set on a tidal arm of the Milford Haven estuary. It has a quay, a Norman church, a tearoom and a pub, and in summer it fills with boats and water-skiers. There is no bus service, so it works as a quiet night between Pembroke and Tenby rather than a base for a whole trip. One night is enough; two if you want to walk the estuary paths slowly.

Get around
There is no bus and no railway station. A car is effectively required; the village is about 9 miles by road from Pembroke. On foot, lanes and the estuary footpath link the church, the quay and the hostel. Taxis must be booked from Pembroke or Narberth — do not expect one to pass through.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake at first meeting; 'hi' and first names quickly; avoid: Cheek kisses with strangers
- Conversation: Weather is a safe opener; understatement and self-deprecating humour; avoid: Asking about salary or class
- Queues: Join at the back; avoid: Pushing onto buses or trains before others get off
- Apologies: 'Sorry' is said constantly, even when not at fault; avoid: Taking it as an admission of blame
- Pubs: Buy rounds in a group; wait at the bar without waving money; avoid: Clicking fingers at staff
- Nations: Call Scots Scottish and Welsh Welsh; avoid: Calling the whole UK 'England'
Scams and watch-outs
- No bus service: without a car you are dependent on a booked taxi or a long walk.
- Mobile signal is patchy: 4G from O2 and Three only, nothing from EE or Vodafone.
- Single-track lanes with passing places; drive slowly and expect tractors.
- The estuary is tidal and the water is cold — check tide times before walking the shore.
Very low crime; the real risks are single-track lanes, fast tides in the estuary and no mobile signal on parts of the coast path. Tell someone your route before walking.
