Laulasmaa
Half-day trip from Tallinn for the beach and Arvo Pärt Centre, or a spa overnight. Not a base for exploring North Estonia.
Laulasmaa is a quiet coastal village 40 km west of Tallinn, known for its sandy beach, the Arvo Pärt Centre and the LaSpa spa hotel. Most visitors come for a few hours of beach time or a spa stay. The village has no real town centre, so plan around one or two specific activities.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and eye contact; avoid: Hugging strangers
- Conversation: Get to the point; silence is comfortable; avoid: Loud talk on buses and trains
- Homes: Shoes off at the door; bring flowers (odd number); avoid: Even numbers of flowers — those are for funerals
- Sauna: Shower first; sit on a towel; avoid: Talking loudly or refusing to follow house rules
- History: Ask and listen; avoid: Calling Estonia 'ex-Soviet' or 'Eastern Europe' carelessly — many prefer Northern Europe
- Queues: Keep your place and distance; avoid: Standing close
Scams and watch-outs
- No shops or restaurants outside the spa hotel and the Arvo Pärt Centre café.
- Bus schedules are sparse on Sundays; check the timetable in advance.
- The beach has no lifeguard; swim at your own risk.
Very safe. The main risks are cold water and no lifeguard on the beach, and slippery boardwalks in wet weather.
