Henderson is the second city of the Las Vegas valley and its border with Las Vegas has all but gone. This page covers Henderson plus the Las Vegas east side, south of the airport and east of the Strip. You come here for cheaper rooms, big locals' casinos, wetlands and desert preserves, and a base for Lake Mead and Boulder City — not for the Strip itself. A car or rideshares are close to essential.

Get around
RTC buses run across east Las Vegas and Henderson; a single ride is about $2 and a 24-hour pass about $5, bought on board. A 5-day pass is sold at supermarkets and check-cashing shops, not on the bus. Outside the airport, the Strip and downtown, taxis are not hailable — call one and wait 20–40 min, or use a rideshare app. Distances are long and parking is free almost everywhere, so a rental car is usually cheaper than repeated rideshares.

Scams and watch-outs

- Do not walk the Boulder Highway corridor at night; drive or take a rideshare between motels and casinos.

Henderson is one of the safer large US suburbs, but this is a car city: the main risks are summer heat, long unlit roads and the Boulder Highway motel strip at night. Keep to lit, busy areas and drive between them.
