Go for 2 nights: two monasteries, a gorge walk and a horse trek, at 3,300 m. Skip if you have no acclimatisation days or no patience for slow buses.
Langmusi is a Tibetan village split by the Sichuan–Gansu border, with a monastery on each side and grassland hills behind. There is no airport and no train; you arrive by bus or hired car from Xiahe, Hezuo or Zoige. Two nights covers both gompas, the gorge and one ride or walk; three nights lets you add a nomad homestay trek.

Get around
On foot. The village is small enough to cross in 15–20 minutes. Mountain bikes can be rented in town for rides on the valley roads; ponies are hired for treks. Trails up to the ridges and tablelands reach about 4,200 m, so allow time and turn back if weather closes in.

Scams and watch-outs
- Altitude: the village sits around 3,300 m. Sleep the first night easy, drink water, and do not plan a long hike on arrival day.
- Sky-burial sites are active religious places: last rites are private, and photographing them is forbidden.
- Wild dogs roam the outskirts; carry a stone and keep your distance.
- Cash: ATMs are unreliable here. Bring enough yuan from Xiahe or Hezuo.
- Buses are few and leave early; buy the onward ticket the day you arrive.
- Many guesthouses and cafés close in winter, and hot water is often evening-only or on request.
Low crime, high altitude. The real risks are AMS on arrival day, cold nights even in summer, wild dogs on the outskirts, and unreliable ATMs: carry cash and respect the monasteries.
