Lampedusa is Italy's southernmost island, 20 km² of limestone, maquis and wind, 113 km off Tunisia and closer to Africa than to Sicily. Almost everything worth doing is coastal: Spiaggia dei Conigli, the reserve coves, boat trips and the cliffs at Capo Ponente. Three nights covers the island without rushing; two works if you fly in early and out late. Book Rabbit Beach online before you arrive, and expect thin English outside the tourist trades.

Scams and watch-outs
- Spiaggia dei Conigli needs an online reservation for a morning or afternoon slot: no booking, no entry.
- The reserve closes sections seasonally for turtle nesting; follow posted limits and stay off the sand at night.
- Summer sun between 11:00 and 16:00 is the main health risk: hat, high-SPF, water.
- Lifeguards are not on every beach; currents and jellyfish warnings are posted locally.
- Rural roads are narrow and poorly lit at night; helmets are required on scooters.
- Winter sea crossings can be cancelled by weather and flights thin out: check schedules before booking.
Violent crime is rare and petty theft uncommon. The real risks are sun and heat, unguarded swimming, scooter riding on narrow unlit roads, and ignoring reserve rules during turtle nesting.
