Lake Worth Beach is a small city of about 39,000 people on the Palm Beach County coast, roughly 16 km south of West Palm Beach. Its draw is a compact downtown of galleries, theatres and bars plus a free public beach on the barrier island. Most travellers use it as a relaxed 1–2 night stop between Delray Beach and West Palm Beach, or as a cheaper base for the county.

The beach is on the barrier island across the Intracoastal drawbridge, about 3 km east of downtown — too far to walk with gear in summer heat, so drive, cycle or take a rideshare. Palm Tran buses serve the county; Tri-Rail runs from the Lake Worth station west of I-95 to West Palm Beach, Delray Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
