Lake Havasu City
Give it 2 nights if you want the lake and the London Bridge; 1 night is enough if you are only breaking the drive on AZ-95.
Lake Havasu City sits on the Arizona side of the Colorado River, about 3 h by car from Las Vegas and 3.5 h from Phoenix. The draw is the 1831 London Bridge, moved here in 1968, plus a warm, wide stretch of lake that supports boating, swimming and spring and autumn events. There is no scheduled commercial air service, so most visitors arrive by car on AZ-95 and stay 1–3 nights.

Get around
AZ-95 is the main artery and almost everything is on or near it; a car is effectively required. The bridge area, English Village and the channel are walkable once you park. There is no useful public transit for visitors; taxis and rideshare exist but are thin outside the centre.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Summer heat is dangerous: plan outdoor activity before 10:00 and after 18:00, carry water.
- Lake and river currents plus boat traffic: wear a life jacket, and never swim alone.
- Boat and jet-ski rentals need a safety briefing and often a deposit; check the terms before you pay.
- Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day) bring heavy boat traffic and higher room rates.
- Cell coverage is fine in town but patchy on desert back roads; download offline maps.
A low-crime resort town; the real risks are summer heat, open water and drinking on boats. Lock your car, keep valuables out of sight, and treat 40 °C (104 °F) days as a hard limit on walking.A low-crime resort town; the real risks are summer heat, open water and drinking on boats.
