Lafia is the capital of Nasarawa State and a middle-belt market town on the Abuja–Makurdi highway, about 2–3 h by road from Abuja. It trades sesame, soybeans, yams and grain, and its draw is a warm spring, a long lake and the Eggon hills rather than a sightseeing list. Most travellers pass through, or use it as a base for Akwanga and Keffi.
