Laem Chabang
Skip Laem Chabang as a destination. Use it only as a port stop for cruise ships or a transit point between Bangkok and Pattaya: a few hours, not a night.
Laem Chabang is Thailand's busiest deep-sea port and an industrial hub on the Eastern Gulf Coast. It has a coastline with beaches and seafood restaurants, but the city is dominated by shipping and manufacturing. Most travellers pass through on the way to Pattaya or Chonburi. A half-day is enough if you arrive by cruise ship; otherwise, skip it.

- Greeting: A wai (palms together, slight bow) to return a greeting; a smile and nod for shop staff; avoid: Waiing children or service staff first — it confuses; hugging strangers
- Head and feet: Keep feet on the floor, sit with legs folded to the side in temples; avoid: Touching heads (even children's), pointing feet, stepping over people or food
- Temples: Covered shoulders and knees, shoes off, sit lower than monks; avoid: Women touching monks or handing them things directly; climbing Buddha images

- Home visit: Shoes off; bring fruit or sweets; step over the threshold, not on it; avoid: Sitting with feet towards the family shrine
