La Ventana
Go for 3–5 nights if you kite, dive or fish; skip it if you want restaurants, bars and shops within walking distance.
La Ventana is a two-village strip on the Sea of Cortez — La Ventana in the south, El Sargento in the north — with about 255 permanent residents and a winter wind that made it a kitesurfing base. There is no town centre to stroll: you sleep, eat and launch from the beach road, and you need a car or a scooter to move between the two halves. Come for the water, not for the nightlife.

Get around
Walk inside each village; a car, scooter or e-bike is needed to move between La Ventana and El Sargento and to reach the hot springs. Bikes are lent or rented by some guesthouses. Boats are hired on the beach for Isla Cerralvo and fishing.

- Swimming with orcas and mobula rays is a licensed, weather-dependent tour, not a guaranteed encounter.
