Kuta is South Lombok's beach town: a fishing village turned surf and resort base, 18 km from Lombok International Airport (LOP). The draw is the coastline east and west of town — Tanjung Aan, Mawun, Selong Belanak, Gerupuk — plus Bukit Merese for sunset. Three or four nights covers the beaches and one surf session; add nights if you want to slow down. Note this is not Kuta, Bali.

Get around
In the village everything is walkable. For the beaches you need wheels: a rented scooter (about Rp50,000/day, no fuel) or a car with driver (about Rp350,000 for a half day). Ride-hailing apps Grab and Gojek do not operate in Kuta because of the local taxi association — use ojek (motorbike taxi) or your hotel's driver. Bemos exist but are slow and confusing for visitors.

Scams and watch-outs
- Grab and Gojek do not operate in Kuta; agree ojek or driver prices before you ride.
- Never hand over your passport as scooter rental security; check the bike and note existing damage.
- No scooter insurance in Kuta; damage claims can be inflated — rent from your hotel if possible.
- Surf rage happens at busy breaks; stay respectful and calm, and pay a local a few thousand rupiah to watch your bike.
- At low tide Pantai Putri Nyale dries out and is not good for swimming.
- Selong Belanak warungs may charge over Rp100,000 to use a sunbed; bring your own towel and shade.
Kuta is a relaxed beach town and most trips pass without trouble. The real risks are scooter crashes on unsealed roads, theft from parked bikes, and occasional aggression at crowded surf breaks — ride sober, lock up, and stay calm in the water.
