Kupang
Give Kupang 1–2 nights as a West Timor staging point: airport, bemos, night market, then move on to Soe or Timor-Leste.
Kupang is the capital of East Nusa Tenggara and the main gateway to West Timor, on the south coast of the island. Most travellers pass through on the way to Soe, Kefamenanu, Atambua or Dili, but the city itself has a beach, a night market and enough food to justify a night or two. It is a practical stop, not a resort.

Get around
Bemos (shared minibuses) run fixed routes for a flat fare, with the route number on top; ask your guesthouse which one passes your stop. Grab, Maxim and Go-Jek are widely used and usually easier. Coco Taxis cover short hops. Distances are short but traffic is slow.
