Kumpur
Skip Kumpur unless you have a full day for a 3-hour hike from the road: it's a hillside village with homestays and mountain views, not a stop you can do in passing.
Kumpur is a small village in Dhading district, 80 km from Kathmandu on the road to Pokhara. The access requires a 4-hour bus ride to Bungchung Village and then a 3-hour hike up. The reward is a quiet hillside stay with views of the Annapurna range, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Manaslu, Mardi Himal and Gauri Shankar. Most travellers use it as a one-night homestay stop, not a base.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Namaste with palms together; a handshake between men in business; avoid: Hugging or kissing in public
- Temples and stupas: Walk clockwise, spin prayer wheels clockwise, shoes off at shrines; avoid: Touching offerings; entering Hindu-only areas
- Food: Right hand, accept refills gracefully; avoid: Sharing food you have bitten; stepping over food
- Feet and heads: Keep feet flat and away from people and altars; avoid: Touching anyone's head
- Photos: Ask first; offer to show the picture; avoid: Photographing cremations or rituals without permission
- On the trail: Pass mani walls and chortens on the left (keeping them on your right); give way to yaks on the mountain side; avoid: Standing on the drop side when animals pass
Scams and watch-outs
- The 3-hour hike from Bungchung Village is uphill on a dirt trail; carry water and wear sturdy shoes.
- No shops or restaurants beyond homestay meals; bring snacks and any medicines you need.
- Mobile signal is patchy; check with your provider before you go.
- Homestays are informal: confirm the price and what's included (meals, bedding) before you arrive.
Kumpur is a quiet village with low crime. The main risks are the hike (steep, slippery after rain) and the lack of medical facilities: the nearest clinic is in Bungchung Village or Dhading Besi.
