Kremnica
Give Kremnica one full day: town castle, mint and coin museum in the morning, mine tour or the Kalvária climb after lunch. Sleep one night if you want Skalka.
Kremnica is a small medieval mining town in the Tekov region, about 1,000 years of gold and silver behind it and a mint that still strikes Slovak euro coins. The old core is compact and walkable in half a day; the mine tour, the Kalvária viewpoint and the Skalka ski area are what stretch a visit to a full day or an overnight. It works best as a stop between Žiar nad Hronom and the Turiec valley, not as a base for the whole region.

Get around
The centre is small enough to walk end to end in about 15 minutes. Medium-distance buses run between stops in town but are not practical for sightseeing. In winter a yellow weekend minibus links the bus station with Skalka; in summer it runs as a cyklobus so you can carry a bike up and ride back down (fare about €1).
