Konark is a small coastal town built around one monument: the 13th-century Sun Temple, a UNESCO site shaped as Surya's chariot with 24 carved wheels and seven horses. Get around
The town is small: the temple, market and most lodges are walkable. Cycle rickshaws and auto-rickshaws cover the beach and Ramachandi. Buses and shared autos run to Puri (about 1 h) and Bhubaneswar; a hired car is the comfortable option between the three points of the Puri–Konark–Bhubaneswar triangle.

Konark is a small, low-crime temple town and safe for tourists by day. The real risks are heat, unguarded beach currents, and pushy guides or 'blessing' touts around the temple gate.
