Kolding is a 62,000-person town in eastern South Jutland where the 1200s royal castle Koldinghus, the stone Church of Saint Nicholas and a small riverfront centre sit within a few hundred metres of each other. Trains between Aarhus and Copenhagen stop here, so it works as a one-night break on the Jutland line or as a base for Christiansfeld and Skamlingsbanken. Most of the day is spent on foot.
