Koksijde
Go for 1–2 nights as a quiet beach base on the Kusttram line; skip if you want nightlife or a car-free historic core — that is Bruges.
Koksijde is a West Flanders coastal municipality of about 22,000 residents, made up of Koksijde-Bad and Sint-Idesbald on the shore, the resort of Oostduinkerke and the inland village of Wulpen. It is a beach-and-dunes stop rather than a sightseeing city: two museums, a modern church, Belgium's highest dune and the last horseback shrimp fishers in the world. One full day covers the coast; add a second for the tram and the polders.

Get around
The Kusttram runs the whole coast and links Koksijde-Bad, Sint-Idesbald and Oostduinkerke-Bad; buy a single or a day pass from the driver or the app. Bikes can be rented near the promenade but some shops close on weekdays in winter. Local buses cover Wulpen and the inland villages; a car helps for the polders.

Scams and watch-outs
- The rail halt named Koksijde is not on the coast: many travellers ride to De Panne or Ostend and switch to the tram.
- Sea wind and blowing sand on the beach even in summer: bring a layer.
- Many seafront restaurants and bars close outside the season, and some close one weekday in low season.
- North Sea water stays cold (roughly 17–20 °C in summer) and currents are strong: swim near lifeguarded posts only.
A calm, low-crime resort town; the real risks are North Sea currents and cold water, blowing sand and wind on the beach, and unlit dune paths after dark. Emergency 112.
