Kogo
Cogo
Kogo is a border town on the Muni Estuary, used mainly as a crossing to Gabon. Half a day is enough: cross the border or see the market and riverfront, then move on.
Kogo (also Cogo) is a small town on the Muni Estuary in mainland Equatorial Guinea, 117–121 km south of Bata. It is one of two road border crossings to Gabon (the other is Acalayong). Most travellers stop here only to cross the border or to break a journey between Bata and Gabon. The town itself has a local market, river views and nearby rainforest, but no major sights. Half a day is enough unless you are waiting for a boat or a border crossing.

- Officials: Patience and politeness; avoid: Arguing at checkpoints
- Photos: Ask; avoid anything official; avoid: Street photography near government sites
- Dress: Smart-casual; avoid: Beachwear in town
Scams and watch-outs
- Border formalities: check visa requirements for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea before you travel.
- Road conditions: the route from Bata can be rough, especially in the rainy season.
- Limited services: few restaurants, no bank or ATM confirmed; bring enough CFA francs from Bata.
- Checkpoints: expect police and military checkpoints on the road from Bata; carry your passport and visa at all times.
Kogo is generally safe, but petty theft can occur. The main risks are road accidents (poor roads, reckless driving) and checkpoints where you may be asked for a bribe. Keep your passport and visa handy, and avoid travel after dark on the road from Bata.
