Knysna sits mid-Garden Route between George and Plettenberg Bay, built around a tidal lagoon that empties into the Indian Ocean between two sandstone cliffs, the Heads. It is a self-drive stop: the forest, the reserve and the beaches are spread out and there is no public transport beyond minibus taxis.
