Knin
Skip Knin unless you are a history or archaeology enthusiast: the fortress and Roman amphitheatre at Burnum are worth a half-day stop on the Zagreb–Split rail line, but the town itself has limited services and few reasons to stay overnight.
Knin was the medieval capital of Croatia and later a war‑scarred industrial town. Its main draws are the hilltop fortress overlooking the plain, the Roman ruins at Burnum (18 km away) and the nearby Cetina River source. The town has a handful of cafés and one hotel, but no nightlife, few restaurants and almost no tourist infrastructure. Most travellers use it as a quick stop between Zagreb and Split, not a base.
