Kemijärvi
Use Kemijärvi as a one-night railhead or a base for Suomu and Pyhä, not as a sightseeing town: the centre is a 10-minute walk end to end.
Kemijärvi is Finland's northernmost city and the north-eastern passenger railhead, about 80 km from Rovaniemi airport and 50 km from Pyhä. The town itself is small and quiet; its value is the lake, the overnight train from Helsinki and the fells and ski resorts within an hour's drive. Most travellers spend one night, or two if they are skiing at Suomu.
