Keetmanshoop
Stop one night, not two: fuel, tyres, the quiver tree forest at sunset, then drive on. Two nights only if you hike the Fish River Canyon.
Keetmanshoop is the capital of the ǁKaras region and the main B1 stop between Windhoek and South Africa, about 500 km south of the capital. Most travellers use it to refuel, check tyres and sleep. The reason to build in an afternoon is the quiver tree forest and Giant's Playground, 15 km out on the M29, best at sunset or sunrise. The town itself is a small, old German-era grid with a museum in a 1895 mission church.
