Kėdainiai is a small town near the geographical centre of Lithuania, an hour by bus or train from Kaunas, with one of the country's best-preserved Old Towns outside Vilnius. The draw is compact: a wooden Jesuit church, two market squares, a regional museum, a free-standing Ottoman-style minaret by the station, and a multicultural history of Scottish traders and a Jewish community destroyed in 1941. Most travellers see it as a half-day stop between Kaunas and Panevėžys or Šiauliai.
