Kaustinen
Kaustby
Go only for the July folk music festival (book beds months ahead) or as a 2-hour stop between Kokkola and Kannus; otherwise skip.
Kaustinen is a small Ostrobothnian municipality of about 4,300 people that hosts a large annual folk music festival. Outside festival week it is a quiet rural stop with a wooden church, two small local-history museums and a folk arts centre. Most travellers pass through on the road between Kokkola and Seinäjoki, or come for the festival and stay in the area.
