Kaunas is Lithuania's second city and its interwar capital, 90 minutes by train from Vilnius. The Old Town sits at the river confluence, the New Town runs along Laisvės alėja, and the modernism of the 1920s–30s plus the Ninth Fort are what separate it from Vilnius. Two nights covers it without rushing; one night is enough if you only want the Old Town.
