Kastamonu
Give Kastamonu one night as a stop between Safranbolu and the Black Sea coast, or two if you want the Mahmut Bey Mosque and the castle without rushing.
Kastamonu is an inland Anatolian city at 900 m, 92 km from the Black Sea, once the capital of the Candaroğlu principality and later a supply hub in the War of Independence. The old town along the Karaçomak River is a working city rather than a restored quarter, so its mosques, hans and mansions sit among modern blocks. It works as a one-night stop on the Safranbolu–Sinop road, with the nailless Mahmut Bey Mosque as the reason to stay longer.
