Kapuskasing
Stop for one night on the Highway 11 run between Hearst and Timmins: the museum, the cheese, the mill and the 1963 strike monument. No scheduled flights.
Kapuskasing is a pulp-and-paper town of about 8,300 people on the Trans-Canada Highway in the Great Clay Belt of Northern Ontario, 2 h 45 min by bus from Timmins and about 3 h 30 min by car from Hearst. It is flat, forested and cold: moose, black bear and lynx country, with walleye and pike in the lakes. There is no scheduled air service, so you arrive by car or by Ontario Northland bus. One night covers the museum, the cheese shop and the mill; two nights if you want to fish or drive out to the Reesor Siding monument.

Get around
You need a car or a taxi: the town is spread along Highway 11 and the mill and cheese shop are a few km apart. Walking works for the downtown Circle Area and the museum. Ontario Northland buses stop in town but run only several days per week.
