Kapurthala
Half a day is enough: see the Moorish Mosque and Jagatjit Palace, then leave. No need to stay overnight unless you're visiting the Kanjli Wetlands or passing through on the Jalandhar–Firozpur line.
Kapurthala is a small town in Punjab known for its unusual Moorish Mosque (a replica of Marrakech's Grand Mosque) and the French-inspired Jagatjit Palace. The Rail Coach Factory is the main employer. Most travellers come from Jalandhar or Amritsar for a few hours, see the two landmarks and leave. The Kanjli Wetlands, a Ramsar site, add a birdwatching stop if you have time.
