Kappil
Skip Kappil as a destination: it's a 30-minute stop between Varkala and Kollam for the lagoon-and-sea view, not a place to sleep.
Kappil is a narrow strip of land where a lagoon meets the Arabian Sea, divided by a road. It has a railway station, a few tea stalls and no real accommodation. Most travellers pass through on the way to Varkala (5 km) or Kollam. The only reason to stop is the 15-minute view of the backwaters on one side and the sea on the other.
