Kappad
Kappakadavu
A half-day stop from Kozhikode: see the Vasco da Gama landing monument, walk the beach and leave. Not a base.
Kappad is a quiet beach 16 km from Kozhikode where Vasco da Gama first set foot in India in 1498. A stone monument marks the spot; the beach itself is wide and clean. There is little else — no shops, no major sights, a handful of eateries. Most travellers come for an hour or two, then head back to Kozhikode.
