Kamenice nad Lipou is a 3,800-person town in the Highlands with a pink Renaissance chateau, a lime tree said to be over 700 years old, and a narrow-gauge railway from Jindřichův Hradec. Foreign visitors are rare; domestic summer tourism and the heritage train fill the square. One night covers it, and the surrounding ponds, forests and marked trails reward a second day if you have a bike or car.

Get around
The town is small enough to walk end to end in about 20 minutes. For the quarry swimming spot, the aleé at Heřmaň and the surrounding ponds you want a bike or a car; bikes can be rented at Hotel Berger (ask if you are not a guest) or from Czech Railways at Jindřichův Hradec station.
