Give Kalimpong two nights as a quiet hill base: walk the town, see Durpin Dara and Deolo, then push on to Lava, Loleygaon or Rishop.
Kalimpong sits at about 1,250 m between Deolo and Durpin Dara, with Kangchenjunga visible on clear mornings. It has fewer sights than Darjeeling and is far quieter, so it works as a two-night walking base and a launch point for the surrounding hill villages. Most travellers arrive by shared jeep or bus from Siliguri or Gangtok.
