Junagadh is a former princely capital under Girnar hill in Saurashtra, 2–2.5 h by road from Rajkot and about 1.5 h from Veraval. Most travellers use it as the gateway to Gir Forest, the last home of the Asiatic lion. The city itself is a half-day of Nawabi tombs, stepwells and a hill climb; Uparkot Fort has been closed for long-term renovation, so check before you build a day around it.
