Jishou
Use Jishou as a transit hub to Dehang or Fenghuang; stay 1 night if you want both, otherwise skip it as a base.
Jishou is the capital of the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, a small transport hub with limited attractions of its own. It connects by train and bus to the scenic towns of Dehang and Fenghuang, making it useful as a short‑stop for those destinations.

Language
Mandarin is the language of the whole country, written in Simplified characters; Cantonese dominates Guangdong and Hong Kong, and dozens of regional languages survive at home. English is on metro signs, airports and large hotels; elsewhere use a translation app. Pinyin (the romanisation) helps with names but tones change meaning.
- Translation apps: Baidu Translate, Youdao, Microsoft Translator and Apple Translate work without a VPN; Google Translate needs one or a roaming eSIM.
- Show destinations to taxi drivers in characters; copy them from Amap.
