Jindabyne sits just below the snow line on Lake Jindabyne, 2.5 hours from Canberra and 5–6 hours from Sydney. In winter it is a dormitory town for Perisher and Thredbo, with a 30–60 minute snow commute each way; in summer it is a lake and hiking base with insects and some accommodation that has no air conditioning.
