Jiangyong
江永
Half a day for the Nüshu script museum, or a full day to include Tongkou village. Not a base; one night if you want to explore the countryside.
Jiangyong is a small county in southern Hunan known for the Nüshu script, a logophonetic writing system invented and used by women. The main sight is the Nüshu Script Museum; the surrounding countryside has Ming-dynasty villages like Tongkou. The town itself has limited accommodation and food options, so most travellers pass through on a day trip from Yongzhou or use it as a quiet stopover.
