Jiajiang
夹江
Skip Jiajiang unless you have a specific interest in ancient Buddhist cliff carvings or handmade paper; the Thousand Buddha Cliff is modest and awkward to reach without a car.
Jiajiang is a small county in east Sichuan, about 1.5 hours by train from Chengdu. Its main draw is the Thousand Buddha Cliff, a riverside rock face with over 160 carved Buddhas, many headless from the Cultural Revolution. A nearby museum covers the local rice-paper industry. The site is poorly connected by public transport and the carvings are less impressive than those at Dazu or Leshan. Most travellers can skip it.
