Jesolo
Go for 2–3 nights if you want a beach base with Venice 1 h 20 min away by bus and boat; skip it if you want the lagoon city itself underfoot.
Jesolo is a flat, 15 km strip of beach hotels, pizzerias and shops on the Veneto coast, about 45 km from Venice. It is a resort first and a sightseeing town second: the sand, the water park and the easy bus link to Punta Sabbioni and the lagoon islands are the reasons to come. Families and beach-first travellers do well here; anyone whose trip is about Venice should sleep in Venice or Mestre instead.

Get around
Two ATVO bus lines cover the strip: bus 3 runs west from Piazza Marconi-Drago to Piazza del Faro, bus 2 runs east to Cortellazzo, each about 20 min end to end and every 20 min in Jul–Aug. Buy tickets at the ATVO counter at the bus station or at tobacconists and newsagents before boarding; tickets are not sold on the bus and must be validated. A bike is a good alternative on the flat seafront.
