The Jersey Shore is a coastal region of beaches, barrier islands, and shore towns stretching from Sandy Hook to Cape May. Driving town-to-town in July can take an hour for 20 km due to single-bridge access and traffic. Choose one county as a base — Monmouth for train access from New York, Ocean for boardwalk amusements, Atlantic for casinos, Cape May for Victorian streets and birding — and day-trip within it.

Summer weekends: the Garden State Parkway backs up on Friday afternoon northbound and Sunday afternoon southbound. Cross the whole shore mid-week or early morning.
Rip currents are the main beach hazard; swim near a lifeguard and only when guards are on duty (usually late June to Labor Day, town by town).
Beach badges are checked on the sand, not at the street. Buy at the beach entrance or a town kiosk.

Jersey Shore coast: Ocean water is warmest late July to early September. Hurricane season runs June–November, peaking August–October; a storm can close beaches and boardwalks for a day.

Memorial Day to Labor Day is peak: rental houses book months ahead and weekend traffic is heavy. May, June and September give the same beach with fewer people; many boardwalk businesses run weekends only outside summer.
