Jerome
Jerome, Missouri
Skip Jerome as a destination: it's a river access point with one campground and no services. Pass through on I-44 or stop for a swim at Arlington River Resort.
Jerome and its neighbour Arlington are unincorporated communities on the Gasconade River in Central Missouri, near the edge of Mark Twain National Forest. Arlington was a Route 66 resort town that was largely demolished during World War II to widen the highway; today it's a ghost town with a single campground. Jerome has no shops, restaurants or attractions — it's a place to cross the river or camp, not a destination.
