Jedburgh is a small Scottish Borders town of about 4,000 people, ten miles north of the English border on the A68 between Edinburgh and Newcastle. Its ruined Augustinian abbey, a Georgian jail museum and a 16th-century tower house sit inside a compact centre you can walk end to end in 15 minutes. Most travellers see it in half a day, or use it as one night on a Borders driving route.

Get around
Walk. The centre is flat, pavements are continuous and the speed limit is 20 mph. Buses run along the Galashiels–Tweedbank–Melrose–Jedburgh corridor (Borders Bus 68, hourly) and to Kelso and Hawick (Hogg Bus 20). Peter Hogg also runs taxis. There is no cycle repair shop in town.
