Jasper
Give Jasper 2 nights: one full day for the park (Maligne Lake or the tramway), one for the Icefields Parkway south. Skip it only if you have no car.
Jasper is a town of about 4,700 people inside Jasper National Park, four hours north of Banff and four hours west of Edmonton. It is quieter than Banff, the town itself is walkable in 15 minutes, and everything worth seeing — lakes, canyons, the tramway, the Columbia Icefield — is a drive away. Two nights is the practical minimum; three if you want a hike and the Icefields Parkway without rushing.

Get around
No public transit. The townsite is flat and walkable in about 15 minutes end to end. For the park you need a car, a rental bike in summer, or a tour bus — Brewster uses large coaches, SunDog smaller vans, at similar prices. Taxis are limited; Caribou Cabs is the local operator.
